Hi guys! Guess what just happened to the blog! As a part of our 3000 hits special, Slippery Raptor’s Blog had a new theme! The theme that I’m using now is called, Hemingway Rewritten. The theme is cool right? Just like what my friends said in the previous post!
I’m very sorry if it took a while to update the blog. It’s because our exams were last week and I was really busy. So, let’s head on to the posts!

Poptropica Artist’s and Writer’s Interviews on L’idea Magazine
Two of Poptropica’s staff was interviewed in an online magazine namely “L’idea Magazine”. First off, Poptropica’s writer, Paul Gilligan was interviewed and in this interview he talks about Poptropica ( and mostly about Pooch café). If you’d like to know more about the interview, click this link. Here is an excerpt from the interview:
L’IDEA MAGAZINE: In June of this year you debuted with another comic strip, Poptropica. Could you tell us how it came about and what is the storyline?
PAUL GILLIGAN: Poptropica is a popular website where players can create avatars and travel through a plethora of interesting islands. The website’s creator, Jeff Kinney (of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” fame) wanted a comic strip to go with it, and so he hired me to do the writing. There were pre-existing templates for the two main characters of Oliver and Jorge. I fleshed them out and gave them the motivation that they’re searching for a way out of Poptropica by traveling from island to island, kinda like that show “Quantum Leap”, like each time they hop to the next island it will be the one that leads them home.
Also, Kory Merritt, a Poptropica artist, was interviewed in the magazine as mentioned earlier. He mostly talks about his creation. The Lost Side of Suburbia and of course—Poptropica! Guess what? The Poptropica graphic novel is coming soon! Kory confirmed it in this interview. Here’s the link and an excerpt.
L’IDEA MAGAZINE: You are illustrating a graphic novel for a famous author. Are you still keeping the details secret or are we ready for the revelation of this mysterious author?
KORY MERRITT: Ah, that’s the Poptropica stuff. The famous author is Jeff Kinney, the Wimpy Kid himself – I think I’ve dropped that name a few times already. He created Poptropica and the characters from the Poptropica comics, along with author/editor Jess Brallier and some others. I’m presently drawing and coloring a 105-page graphic novel based on the Poptropica comic characters. It’s an original story from Jeff and Jess, and the script was written by Max Brallier, who has another illustrated series in the works. They’re really cool people. I’m lucky to be on board. I nearly geeked-out the first time I heard from Jeff, but luckily managed to keep it together (or at least that’s how I remember it).
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul ad
The long-awaited Diary of a Wimpy Kid ad is finally on Poptropica! It’s a great advertisement and I recommend that you should check it out! The Heffleys are going on a road trip and one of their stop is at a country fair. Greg finds the fair boring so when you enter the ad, talk to Greg. He’ll tell you that if you can roll a pot-bellied pig, you’ll win great prizes!
The game is similar to the mini-game in Great Pumpkin Island where you get to push the biggest pumpkin to Lucy. You just need to push the pumpkin, avoid the moles and many obstacles along the way. At the end of the game, you’ll get to watch a pig crash a pie eating contest and break a weighing scale! At the end, you’ll receive two prizes. A Pig Costume and a Pumpkin Bazooka game! The Pumpkin Bazooka game is an extra game that can unlock a new prize, a Pumpkin Bazooka!
Behind the Scenes: PopStorm & Monster Carnival Characters
Poptropica unveiled two new Behind-the-Scenes moment on their Twitter account! Now, they released a new PopStorm! It’s called “Helpful Hairstyles” which features hairstyles that are controlled telepathically and can help you to brush or cut your hair!
The next BTS features the supposed-to-be characters of Monster Carnival in the Haunted Lab. We can see that a character made it into the game itself just like the scary puppet! What do you think of these BTS?
PoptropiCon Episode 2— The release date!
On the thirteenth of November, next week, Poptropica will release the second episode of PoptropiCon to non-members! I’m very happy because it will fall on my birthday (my 14th birthday) and I told the Creators that it was a great birthday gift to me! Lastly, the second episode is the best episodic episode so far and it features a epic plot twist!
